EPJ B Topical Collection: Localized Waves in Complex Nonlinear Physical Systems

Submissions are invited for a Topical Collection of EPJ B on Localized Waves in Complex Nonlinear Physical Systems.

Localized waves (such as solitons, breathers and rogue waves) are fundamental excitation modes in nonlinear physical systems and are widely found in various systems, including Bose–Einstein condensates, nonlinear optics, fluid dynamics, plasma physics, biophysics, and financial physics. With the continuous advancement of experimental techniques and deep learning methods, researchers are not only able to obtain exact solutions for localized waves in ideal integrable systems but also to realize or predict novel localized wave states in various real-world complex nonlinear physical systems (such as non-Hermitian systems, high-dimensional systems, and multi-component systems), thereby revealing their intrinsic properties.

In anticipation of the 8th Hubei Soliton Symposium, this special issue has been established to compile the latest theoretical findings and applied advancements regarding localized waves in complex nonlinear physical systems. We encourage research that reveals the formation mechanisms, stability, interactions, and control techniques of localized waves from an interdisciplinary perspective, thereby promoting the convergence of nonlinear physics and related disciplines. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Modulation instabilities and excitation mechanisms of localized waves
  • Exact solutions for localized waves and their dynamical properties in integrable nonlinear physical systems
  • Excitation mechanisms and dynamical control of localized waves in complex nonlinear physical systems
  • Applications of deep learning algorithms in localized wave theory
  • Structures and properties of novel nonlinear localized waves

We invite researchers and experts in the field to submit original and innovative contributions that advance the understanding of localized waves and highlight their potential impact on science and technology. This special issue will serve as a platform for fostering collaboration and exchange of ideas among researchers working on different aspects of localized waves. We are aiming for a total of about 20 articles in this topical issue and will reach out to a few other individuals who are doing cutting-edge research in this domain in the very near future.

We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Collection to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJ B Editorial Office at https://www.editorialmanager.com/epjb/.

Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue on ‘Localized Waves in Complex Nonlinear Physical Systems’. Accepted papers will be published continuously and will appear as soon as accepted on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
