We present Monte Carlo simulations of the ripening of 2D islands in the case when the formation of the monomer-monomer bonds is kinetically limited. The results obtained indicate that such limitations may modify the early stage of the kinetics. Asymptotically, the ripening is described by the Lifshitz-Slyozov law.
