We discuss several properties of the current of the one-dimensional asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) through exact solutions. First we explain the stationary measure for the finite system with boundaries and its average current. Then we study the fluctuation properties of the current and the position of a tagged particle for the infinite system in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) scaling region.
