The effects of single-ion anisotropy and different sublattice transverse fields on the critical properties of the mixed Ising spin system on the square lattice are investigated within the framework of an effective field approximation. For certain values of the system parameters, tricritical points and reentrant phenomena can be observed, due to the competition between the different transverse fields and single-ion anisotropy. We present a detailed description of the phase diagram.
